XI “ARPACHAY OPEN” International Karate Tournament Concludes

The XI “ARPACHAY OPEN” international karate tournament, dedicated to the memory of our martyrs, successfully concluded at the Serhedchi Sports Center in Baku.
The competition, organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Karate Federation (AKF), and under the organization of the Arpachay Sports Association, was held on January 30–31 as an international tournament and on February 1 as a domestic tournament for children.
The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by families of martyrs and war veterans, the leadership of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, Members of the Milli Majlis, including members of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, representatives of the sports community, as well as athletes and official delegations from 12 countries. The event began with the National Anthem and a one-minute silence in honor of our martyrs.
At the opening ceremony, the President of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation and Member of the Milli Majlis, Ulvi Guliyev, highlighted the respectful commemoration of martyrs, the development of national sports policy, and the continuous efforts to strengthen karate as a sport. He emphasized that the XI “ARPACHAY OPEN” international tournament holds great significance each year for both professional athletes and the younger generation, contributing to the international prestige of Azerbaijani sports.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, Shahin Ismayilov, also noted that such international competitions play a vital role in increasing youth interest in sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and enhancing Azerbaijan’s international image in sports.
Approximately 1,200 athletes from 12 countries participated in the international tournament, competing in various age and weight categories. The competitions were held at a high organizational level, featuring exciting and intense matches. The domestic tournament for children, held on February 1, provided an important platform for identifying talented young athletes and fostering their future development.
The tournament organizer, Director of the Arpachay Karate Club and Honored Coach Yaver Huseynov, expressed gratitude on behalf of the President of the Arpachay Sports Association to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan Karate Federation for their support. He emphasized the high level of organization of the tournament and the professionalism and determination demonstrated by the participants.
Throughout the tournament, outstanding athletes were awarded, while world-renowned karatekas Rafael Agayev and Irina Zaretska received special honorary awards. Additionally, winners in all categories were presented with medals, diplomas, and gifts.
Overall, the XI “ARPACHAY OPEN” international karate tournament contributed to the development of karate in Azerbaijan, promoted a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation, and enhanced the country’s international sports prestige. The tournament served as a valuable source of experience and motivation for both professional athletes and young aspiring sportspeople.
