Azerbaijan National Ashihara Karate Team Achieves Great Success at the AIKO World Championship

The national team of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation in Ashihara Karate successfully performed at the AIKO World Championship held in Antalya, Türkiye, from April 1 to 5, 2026.

In this prestigious tournament, which brought together over 900 athletes from 20 countries, the Azerbaijani team, represented by 18 athletes, won a total of 11 medals — 8 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze — securing 3rd place in the overall team ranking among participating countries.

Among adults, Kenan Guliyev and Ulfat Valiyev won gold medals. Ibrahim Khalilov was awarded the title of “Best Technical Fighter” and also claimed first place.

In the youth category (12–13 years, 40 kg), Orkhan Shahmammadov delivered the team’s first gold medal. Mehdi Khalilov achieved outstanding results by winning first place in both kumite and kata disciplines.

One of the most remarkable performances of the tournament came from Alakbar Mirzayev, who became champion in both Ashihara Karate and full-contact fights, earning a gold medal and championship belt.

The achievements gained in this highly competitive tournament once again confirm the strengthening position of Azerbaijani athletes on the international sports arena.
