The official opening ceremony of the “Grand Prix” International Karate Tournament has been held

Organized by the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, the “Grand Prix” International Karate Tournament is taking place in Baku from April 10 to 12, 2026. The official opening ceremony was successfully at a high organizational level at the Sərhədçi Sports Center in Baku.
Approximately 700 athletes representing 6 countries are participating in the tournament, once again demonstrating its international scale and high level of competition.
The ceremony began with the teams entering the arena accompanied by music. This was followed by a report from the chief referee to the President of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation. The National Anthem was performed, and the memory of the National Leader and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan was honored with a minute of silence.
In his opening speech, the President of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation, 8th Dan black belt master and Member of Parliament, Ulvi Guliyev, highlighted the importance of the tournament, noting that such international competitions make a significant contribution to the development of sports in the country, promote exchange of experience among athletes, and strengthen Azerbaijan’s sporting reputation.
The Ambassador of Japan to Azerbaijan also addressed the event, wishing success to all participants. Following the speeches, commemorative gifts prepared by the Azerbaijan Karate Federation were presented to the guests.
The artistic part of the ceremony featured national and modern dance performances, as well as a demonstration kata performance by the junior team of the Azerbaijan Karate Federation.
After the artistic program, the final matches commenced, and the awarding ceremonies were held in stages. Representatives of the Federation, government officials, and international guests took part in the award ceremonies. Winners were presented with medals, diplomas, and commemorative gifts.
